Must have Houseplants and Accessories

I just can’t resist a good houseplant - if you have popped by my little shop in Hitchin you will know what I mean; every week I seem to have a new variety of plant to show off! And 2020 has seen everyone (not just me!) going wild for houseplants – as we are spending more time in our homes this year, houseplants are an easy way to create your own little urban jungle to enjoy.

As houseplants are a hot interior trend, I make sure my flower shop in Hitchin is full of them for you guys to choose from. And I’m excited that Town Garden has a fabulous range of houseplants available to order online for local delivery! I have picked out a couple of my favourite indoor plants and houseplant gifts to share with you in my blog this month, so read on to discover more…

The glorious Monstera Deliciosa

You just can’t go wrong with a Monstera Deliciosa, as they are easy to care for and need very little attention whilst fab for adding a touch of tropical paradise to your home. More commonly known as the Swiss Cheese Plant – named because their glossy heart shaped leaves have holes in, making them look like swiss cheese!

The Monstera Deliciosa likes a bright spot (but keep out of strong direct sunlight), keep an eye on the soil so when it feels dry give a light sprinkle of water. He likes a bit of growing room, so I suggest popping your Swiss Cheese plant as a statement somewhere like a lounge coffee table and lightly prune in Spring time.

Essential Houseplant Accessories

Indoor plants are great as they require very little maintenance. I do recommend lightly pruning some varieties of houseplant and have the perfect gadget for all you green-fingered plant lovers – this Plant Pruner is a must have. The stainless steel blades will easily snip dead leaves or stems, which helps keep the plant healthy and nicely shaped.

Need some advice on your houseplant or pruning tips? I’m always happy to give my lovely Town Garden customers some guidance, so just pop in and see me at our shop on Sun Street in the heart of Hitchin.

The funky Fern

A Fern is a great choice for adding some green Zen to your home! One of my personal favourites is the Asplenium Osaka (or affectionately called Birds Nest Fern which is much easier to say) which has long, shiny leaves that have cool ruffled edges for a really decorative look.

Your Fern will love a spot at home that is bright, but not too hot and not too cold. Ferns also love moisture, so keep your Fern lightly misted with water – especially during hot summers.

Because they are so easy to care for, I often suggest Ferns as a great housewarming gift! The proud new house owners can find a place to display their funky Fern, helping it feel more homely and a lasting present for them to enjoy for many years to come.

cool pots for plants

I saw these Buddha Plant pots and fell in love with them! Available in dark grey or white, and a range of pot sizes, they add a touch of fun and look fab with one of our indoor plant popped in them. I'm always on the eye out for cool plant pots and accessories, so you are always welcome to pop by my shop for a browse of my latest goodies.
