7 home styling trends to try this Summer

Summer is always a great time of year - we can finally pack away all the warm fur throws and open the French doors to enjoy sipping morning coffees on the patio! It is also the perfect time to give the home a little style update to suit the season, and I have picked out some of my favourite interior design trends for Summer 2021. These will give you some great ideas and easy tips for achieving a different look in your home without having to change TOO much. Ranging from fresh flowers from your local florist that work best for the Summer look to local artist prints that will transform your home, read on for my favourite 7 home styling ideas you can try!

Stylish Seasonal Flowers

Fresh, seasonal flowers never ever go out of fashion! For Summer floral styles for the home, I recommend a central focus design using statement seasonal blooms to make an impressive impact. For warm Summer months try Hydrangeas, Sunflowers or Sweet Peas arranged in a modern glass vase - keep it simple with just one type of flower and lush foliage for a striking design.

If you would like Town Garden to create you your very own bespoke Summer Vase, just give me a call or pop by my lovely flower shop at 28 Sun Street in Hitchin for a chat.

Hints of Yellow

Pantone have selected THE colour of 2021 to be 'Illuminating Yellow'. Ideal for Summer interior styling without having to repaint the whole house, I suggest adding little pops of eye catching yellow colour in your living room and kitchen. Try scattering comfy lounge cushions, swapping your warm fur sofa blanket for a lighter woven blanket throw in mustard shades (this cotton throw from Etcetera Home Fashion in Hitchin is perfect), or fresh seasonal sunflowers from your local florist arranged in a rustic jug in the kitchen.

Say hi to Japandi

The new home style on every Interior Designers lips this Summer – Japandi. A cool fusion of Japanese and Scandi, Japandi as all about natural woods, mixed textures, earthy colours and rattan.

Dried flowers are perfect for this chic and clean Japandi look, just like this dried flowers vase one of my lovely customers shared on social media. Lavender, wheat and bunny ears carefully dried and arranged in a glass vase displayed on a natural wooden coffee table just adds that homely yet minimal Japendi style.

Boho Garden Vibes

The past year has seen our homes evolving into multi-functional living spaces, which extends out to the garden too. This Summer the garden will be host to a range of activities;  tropical sunbathing relaxing by the (paddling) pool, delicious family BBQs, kids Olympic garden games, glass of Pimm’s round the fire pit with good friends.

Create that cool bohemian garden party vibe by hanging colourful lanterns, twirl solar powered fairy lights round large shrubs and bushes, and treat yourself to this Boho Outdoor Bright Rug from Vinegar Hill - they have a fab family run Hitchin shop to browse round. This boho garden style works best when you clash all the jewel colours such as burnt orange, turquoise blue, hot pink and tropical greens - so go wild with it!

Floating shelves

Making our homes more personal, floating shelves is the new ‘feature wall’ of 2021. An interesting way to display your precious memories in a stylish way, and perfect for transforming a wasted white wall space into something special!

Create a whole wall or section of floating shelves full of family photos, little houseplants, trinkets, favourite books....and whatever else you may want.  This interior trend reminded me of the floating shelf display I created in the Town Garden shop a few years ago with a similar idea -  I just love the natural wood, greenery and ropes combined and mixture of heights to make it visually exciting for the customer.

To create your own version at home, check out these rustic floating shelves from our friends over at Etcetera Home Fashion which is a great choice.

Invest in prints

Summer 2021 is all about clashing colours and cool prints – which can feel a tad daunting for those who are new to interior design. Start small and invest in a few wall prints you love - I recommend heading along to visit Emmeline Webb Studio in Hitchin who has the most incredible colourful wall prints full of energy that won't break the bank but will give you years of happiness and unique style in your home.

Have fun with houseplants

Houseplants are such a fun and easy way to add a touch of urban jungle to our homes. I adore having mini succulents and plants in different nooks and crannies  around the house, adding tropical colour to windowsills, home office or bathroom shelves.  Try mix and matching the plant pots for a more relaxed feel – at the moment I’m loving these grey glazed plant pots available on my online Home Collection. Town Garden is also full all year round  of fab plants, cactus and succulents for you to get your hands on and I can give you some handy tips on which plant will suit your needs best.
