5 ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day in lockdown

With the most romantic date in our diary just a month away, it is never too early to start planning a thoughtful surprise for your special one. We may still be in lockdown for St Valentine’s Day, but nothing will stop us celebrating Love!

This year there is no need to worry about going out in the cold to get to your favourite restaurant, or queuing for taxi or whether the rain will ruin your freshly styled hair – lockdown has given us all the perfect excuse to stay in this February 14th. But to help make it feel more romantic than a standard evening at home, Town Garden have some great ideas for you love birds out there!

Cocktail Party

We can’t go out to have a few romantic drinks by candlelight this February, so enjoy getting all dressed up to the nines and get those cocktail shakers out at home!

Have a scout for your local bars that may offer cocktail making kits, or research your own recipes online. A romantic evening staying in together and stirring up some of your favourite tipples sound perfect to us; Espresso Martinis, Mojitos, Tom Collins, Cosmopolitans, Brambles …. What will be your Valentines cocktail?

Flowers are lovely

One of the most popular gifts on Valentines is of course flowers – especially romantic red roses from your local Hitchin florist which you guys go wild for every February! This year Town Garden can help spread the love by safely delivering a beautiful Valentine’s bouquet to your home as a surprise romantic gesture.  Each bouquet is bespoke made in my lovely Hitchin shop using the finest flowers and luxurious foliage, which means if your Special One adores pink roses or goes crazy for lilies you can talk to us and we can design a floral gift with a really personal touch.

Keep your eyes open for my Valentine’s Day Flowers launching online soon, which are perfect to pre-order for local delivery - I can deliver fresh flowers and gifts to Hitchin, Stevenage, Letchworth and the villages of North Hertfordshire. It is always recommended to order from your local florist in advance to avoid any disappointment!

Get creative

With some extra time on our hands this year it is a great opportunity to get creative with some home made gifts for your One True Love. If you have an arty eye then a lovely hand drawn card is a great keepsake, get the glue stick and glitter pens out to create a photo memory book of all your past adventures together, or if you are a Star Baker then rustle up their favourite brownies (cut into heart shapes of course!). These little thoughtful touches to gifts help show your Valentine just how much you care.

Table for 2, please

If you don’t fancy cooking on Valentine’s Day, then start researching some of the fabulous takeaway menu options from local restaurants – many independent restaurants will love you for supporting them through lockdown too. We are so lucky here in Hitchin that we are surrounded by oodles of choices for mouth watering food from local restaurants including the fabulous Lussmans or The Farmhouse at Redcoats who both offer takeaway or At Home options to order their delicious food, so keep your eyes open for Valentine's Night specials!

Games night

Valentine’s Day isn’t about how much money you spend, but taking some quality time to with your Significant Other. If you both have a competitive streak, grab those board games for a fun night in full of giggles! There are the old school games that are great for 2 players like Ludo, Monopoly or Scrabble or you can try your hand at some of the new popular games for 2 players such as 5 Second Rule game, Throw Throw Burrito or The Logo Board Game.
