3 Top Tips for a Summer Wedding

I am over the moon that weddings are back!! It was strange times during lockdown with no weddings or events taking place, and my heart went out to all our lovely couples who had to postpone their special day. But I am delighted that the Town Garden team are back creating bespoke flowers for petite weddings and smaller celebrations taking place in Hertfordshire.

The Summer months bring a whole new range of seasonal blooms for us to choose from and British grown flowers are at their very finest. I love sourcing stems from trusted suppliers and local growers wherever possible, which ensures my brides have the very best flowers for the big day. It may entail very early morning starts to visit the flower markets, but it is totally worth it when I see the utter joy and pure happiness on my couples faces when they see their bespoke flowers! That WOW factor is something I love creating with my floral designs – whether it is a bridal bouquet, boutonnière for the groom, floral arches for the venue or a flower wand for a special flower girl.

So this month I wanted to take a look back over some of my favourite Summer wedding trends and share with you tips and ideas for Summer weddings flowers:

Pink Peonies

One of the most requested flowers for Summer weddings here at Town Garden is without a doubt The Peony. We hear on the grapevine that white Peonies are also Meghan Markle’s favourite flower - and it is easy to see why!

Peonies are known for their large sphere shaped head, with the petals starting in a tight ball before blossoming out. As they unravel and open, they reveal delicate and frilly looking petals which look soft and romantic. The Peony is very seasonal, and the blooms are at their very best during May and June, which is why they are so popular for early Summer weddings.

How fabulous do these pink Peonies look in one of our recent bridal bouquets? The soft pink adds a romantic touch of colour combined with classic cream roses and dark green foliage. Elegant yet striking, I can see why our brides go crazy for Peonies!

Invest in the venue

Investing in the flowers for your wedding venue is important and doesn’t have to cost the earth, with some clever styling and floristry tricks we can really transform the space to create focal points and reflect the theme of the day. I have had the honour of working at many of the leading wedding venues in Hitchin and Hertfordshire; which gives valuable knowledge of the venue layout and space  so I can suggest ideas for styling and floral displays that will really transform your wedding venue, outside space or church.

Having a floral display such as a romantic flower arch or flower wall as a main feature works really well at giving a focal point for the day – perfect for framing a special moment, beautiful backdrop for wedding photos and talking point for guests. Take a peek at this gorgeous transformation Town Garden did last year – imagine saying ‘I Do’ under these dreamy flowers! I used large white hydrangea heads and tons of lush green foliage to create a gorgeous Midsummer Night Dream feel to the outside setting.

Don’t be afraid to try something new

I love working with each happy couple to understand their vision for the big day - every wedding is unique and I want our couples personality and style to shine bright! A Summer wedding is the perfect time to play around more with colour schemes, and I love it when brides want to try something new and experiment with shades and flower varieties. Bold, bright blooms add tons of character and look simply stunning against the classic white bridal dress.

For one of our most recent Town Garden Summer weddings, my couple were happy to experiment and trusted me to design something extra special, just for them. I used a beautiful combination of seasonal summer flowers in a mix of shades of blues, copper and yellow to create a relaxed, country vibe bridal bouquet. Just look at those colours and textures together! I just adore using yellow Craspedia – one of my favourites for Summer weddings and bouquets as the funky ball shaped flower head looks fab and adds a pop of fun to a floral design.

So don’t be afraid to trust your wedding florist with flower choice – it may not be what you have seen on Pinterest but I promise you will love it!
